The Latin word for "prayer" and also the root for orate. It's not precisely prayer (so don't expect meditations), and yet it is. Part of the monastic tradition is for God-given skills to be used in a form of living prayer. I hope that writing is one of my gifts (or else I'm up the freelance river without a paddle), so these compositions are prayer.
This is the ultimate, relatively complete, and reasonably revealing answer to the too-frequent question, "So what are you doing with yourself?"
